Hello Beautiful Souls,
Today I wanted to write about something that has been making news waves, catching the attention of millions of people. Punch the monkey isn't just a story about an animal. It's a mirror.
I thought to myself, what may be the reason that people are reacting so deeply to him? Is it because he's "just a monkey "? I don't think so. I'm sure there is a bit more to it. That's when I figured out that it's probably because, in some quiet and uncomfortable way, we see ourselves in him.
We live in a constructed world, a social bubble of expectations, labels and hierarchies. And many of us know what it feels like to be rejected early, misunderstood, bullied or left out. We know what it's like to cling to something small for comfort - a doll, a blanket, a routine, a safe person. We know what it's like to run toward others hoping to be accepted, only to sometimes be pushed away.
Punch represents that fragile part of us. The part that just wants safety. The part that wants to belong. The part that didn't choose its circumstances.
When people saw him helpless, vulnerable, navigating a world he didn't fully understand - something instinctive awakened in all of us. Compassion. Protection. Grief . Maybe even a memory.

Everyone who felt heartbroken or defensive on his behalf wasn't just reacting to him. They were reacting to something familiar. Something human. And maybe that's the most powerful part of this story.
The outpouring of emotion for a small, defenseless monkey reminds us that empathy is still alive. That despite the noise, division, and desensitization of modern life, people can still pause and care. It gives us hope.
But it also gently challenges us: If we can feel this deeply for Punch... can we do the same and more for each other? Because behind every adult is a child who once just wanted to belong. And maybe what moved us wasn't just Punch. Maybe it was the reminder that compassion is still possible - not just for animals but for humans and all.
I'd love to hear from you. What did this story stir in your heart? Did it bring up any memories or feelings you hadn't expected? Share your thoughts in the comments below, would love to hear from you!
Love Always,
Sarina xx
